Farm Teams
The maximum salary a player can have before being sent to the farm is $3 500 000. Any player with a pro-level salary over this amount can not be sent to the farm squad. If you need to drop the player, you can buy them out or trade them.
When a player is sent down to the minors (either he is 26 years old and under, or he's cleared waivers) their salary is then divided by 10. That number is what counts against the farm salary cap.
Example. If Sergei Kostitsyn makes $550,000 playing in the pros, once he is sent down to the minors he will then be making $55,000. However, if he is recalled to the big club, his salary returns to $550,000.
Farm salaries do not count towards your total payroll, and thus are more or less irrelevant.
There is no limit to the number of players you can have on your roster, however there is a 50 player limit (not including prospects) on your organization.
