Off-Season
Each off-season there will be a set date announced as to when Free Agency officially kicks off.
UFA and RFA negotiations will be done through the IIHA Agent (iiha.agent@gmail.com).
The league minimum for signing a free agent is $500,000 per season.
The league maximum for singing a free agent is $10,000,000 per season.
You may offer a contract anywhere between 1-6 years in length.
Any player with 1 year remaining on his contract must be resigned at the end of the season or during it. Otherwise he will become a free agent. Players with more than 1 year remaining on their contract can not be negotiated with. If a new contract is agreed upon during a season, it will not take effect until the end of the contract in place beforehand, i.e. until the end of the current season.
UFA
For a player to be classified as a UFA, he must be 26 years of age or older.
You may negotiate with your free agents at any point throughout the season. Negotiations may carry on into the off-season, which is fine, however there will be a date given when negotiations will stop and the free agent market will be opened.
RFA
For a player to be classified as an RFA, he must be 25 years of age or younger.
You will be given a certain amount of days to resign your RFAs after the playoffs have concluded. Other teams may send an offer sheet (one and only one offer sheet per team, no re-offers) to your RFAs during this time. You will be given a week to match the offer. If you let him go, you will receive compensation depending on the player's salary.
If you fail to come to terms with your RFA before the deadline, he will become a UFA.
RFA Compensation will be based on the player's newly agreed salary, thus it will be as follows:
The compensatory draft picks must be from your team and must be for the upcoming draft, thus if there is a draft after season 3, and you make an offer sheet that same offseason (free agency occurs prior to draft), you must have the necessary picks from season 3, or else your offer sheet will be discarded and you will not be able to submit another.
In non-draft seasons, the rule will apply to the draft of the season following; i.e. season 2 offer sheets deal with season 3 draft picks.
Newly signed free agents have no trade clauses in effect until one month after they have been signed. For the inaugural free agent period, no newly signed player may be traded until 1 February 2010.
